The Wa-Bak Machine

Summary

Matthew Matisse and Toni DeGrassi had been friends since they were children. They sail and scuba dive together, but to the disappointment of Matthew, that was all. One day while diving off of the Florida coast they find a submerged plane that held a unique invention. They recovered a time machine that looked like a smart phone, in a waterproof case. The adventures accelerate through the book as Toni keeps working at the hospital. Matthew gets bored, and finds another lover in 2031. In the book he acquires a black Pomeranian named Mr. Peabody. The two of them travel back and forth as Matthew is torn between his two lovers. This is a book that will make you laugh and cry, and still go to sleep with happy thoughts.

Toni took her last drink of coffee and walked into the head. She started ringing out our clothes, and hanging them up to dry. I watched her as her towel flexed and stretched as she bent down to pick up more clothes. She had a boyfriend but he hated boats, and Toni and I had been friends since we were kids. She sailed with me any time that I needed a partner.
The rain continued pounding on the fiberglass as the wind whistled through the cables.
The boat squeaked against the fenders as we bounced back and forth off of the dock.
Toni and I just sat silently looking at each other trying to detect a sign of fear. It was like we could be brave as long as the other one was not worried. The rain wasn’t letting up and we decided to spend the night on the boat and try to go home in the morning.

I gave Toni a t-shirt to sleep in and I was good in my swim trunks. The back cabin was full of dive gear and tools so the V-berth was the only sleeping area available without doing a conversion on the galley table.
“Can I sleep with you tonight?” said Toni.
“I’ve been trying to get you to sleep with me since you were fourteen!” I said.
    “Seriously!” she said.
“I am serious!” as I laughed and went into the V-berth.

In the morning all the friendly faces and business people were back on the streets.  We pulled the anchor and sailed out of the bay with a strong wind working in our favor. We set a rough course for 45° N-NE, off the tip of Jamaica which should take us right between Cuba and Haiti.  Once again the ocean was co-operative the winds were strong and we were making great time as the Valerian pounded through the waves.  As we got closer to the southwest peninsula of Haiti we watched two fishing boats sitting idly in the water ahead of us.  We had also been watching a fishing boat that had been following us since we left Jamaica.  I had a nervous feeling about the situation and had Toni bring the 12 gauge up on the deck.  I showed her how to use it just in case.  I told her that in a worst-case scenario if she becomes trapped in the cabin the flare guns are also a convenient weapon.
“Just try to shoot away from the boat and not set our boat on fire.  But in a piracy situation just do anything you have to do to survive.” as I looked seriously into her eyes.
The two fishing boats ahead of us started maneuvering into different locations.  I watched through my binoculars and realized that they were not fishing.  I saw a man with a handgun fairly clear.  The boat behind us was too far away to see, but I could make out four or five black men standing in the boat looking toward us.  I had no doubt in my mind now that we were about to be pirated.  I tightened up the sails and increased our speed hoping that we could outdistance the third boat and possibly deal with the other two.  As we got closer, Toni was using the binoculars and told me that she made out a shotgun and a long rifle.  We sat in the cockpit staring at each other with the boat on autopilot.
“There is no way we’re going to get out of this.” I said to her.
“I know…… but let's take as many of them with us as we can!” said Toni calmly.
I was impressed that she was so brave in such a dire situation.  It kind of gave me an adrenaline boost and suddenly an idea popped into my head.
“Toni!  Help me drop the sails… NOW!” as I ran across the cockpit and started releasing halyards.  The sails fell in a disorganized manner as I kicked off the autopilot and brought the bow into the wind.  As Toni tied the mainsail to the boom I released the jib and started pulling the furling sheets as the jib rolled up.  The Valerian now set dead in the water and was turning to the East as the wind struck the hull.  Toni just kept looking at me trying to figure out what I was thinking.  I think she thought that I had lost my mind and was surrendering.
I ran below deck and brought the Wa-Bak machine up into the cockpit.  I was pushing buttons as Toni got finished and sat down beside me.  She watched what I was doing and started smiling.  She understood now!
“COME ON!!!!!   COME ON!!!!  I NEED COORDINATES!!!!!!  COME ON!!!!!!”
     “YEAH!!!!!!!....... WE HAVE A LOCATION!”
“Toni… I don't know if this is going to work, but we have nothing to lose!” as I set the doughnut size at 150 feet.  When it prompted me for location. I handed the machine to Toni and looked at the chart plotter.  I entered SAVED WAYPOINTS, and found the coordinates from the airplane crash.  With those coordinates now on the chart plotter screen, I copied them into the Wa-Bak machine.  I sat in the cockpit floor and pulled Toni down between my legs.  I wrapped my arms and legs around her, and told her to press ENTER.  Suddenly we were in sight of the Florida coast line as the waves splashed ten foot into the air all the way around the Valerian.
“I bet we are the first people that ever dropped a 34’ foot sailboat into the ocean!” as we both laughed and rocked back and forth in happiness.
“I would like to see what those pirates are doing right now!” said Toni, as she giggled and laughed at the thought.
It was a long time before we even stood up.  Neither of us could quite comprehend what we had just done.

I stood in the window and admired the view. I could see hundreds of miles out across the ocean.
“This is beautiful!” and I turned around, “and so are you.” as she seductively lay on the bed.
I kissed her lightly on the lips and as I pushed her legs apart with my hand. I felt that she was already wet and she jumped as I gently rubbed her. I relocated my body and took my time making love to her. I brought her up several times, but made her wait until I was there with her.
“Are you on the pill?” I whispered.
“THE PILL?..... You aren’t taking your male contraceptive?” as she jerked out from under me and sat on the pillows.
“NO?” I said, “Male contraceptive? Hold on…. I have a condom in my shorts,” as I went into the other room and got it.
She watched attentively and giggled as I rolled it down @%&K
“You act like you have never seen a condom before?”
“I haven’t!”  as she pushed me onto my back and climbed on top of it.
We played catch up for the next few minutes and after teasing me like I had teased her, she kept it going and we both had a great climax in two part harmony. We lie in the bed just holding on to each other. Nastasya was deep into her thoughts.
“Was it not good for you?” as I pulled her face closer to me.
“Oh! That was fantastic! I was thinking about other things.” as she smiled.
“Like you not knowing about male contraceptives. That has been standard Government Issue since I was a child. And you didn’t have a card for Ever Bank Credits. And all of that paper money you were carrying…. and the Government House saying that you were born in 1983?”
“Nastasya! Stop!.....  I am not from your time. I have a boat in Gallows Bay in 2013. I have the ability to travel through time… with slight restrictions.”
“A time traveler? You have spent too much time in the theaters!” as she got up and put on a big flannel shirt.
I walked over to her and hugged her as she looked deeply into my eyes.
“You really are! It is the only answer.” as she sat down onto the floor. I sat down with her and we discussed the differences in her world and mine for the next few hours.
One of the most interesting things that she told me was how the greedy oil barons back in the 2020’s, had priced themselves almost out of business and most cars and trucks now ran off of propane like her car. Almost all the countries had propane reserves and prices stayed cheap. I made a note of the biggest producers and thought I would invest, in my world. I looked at my watch and the sadly looked at Nastasya.
“What?” as she smiled at me.
“It’s time for me to go.” as I stood up and sat on the bed.
