The Salt Block House

Another, A.D.Banyan dream.
Share your dreams at     DreamsForNow@wordpress.com

We drove onto the lawn, no lawn, the dirt, in front of the house, and parked next to the other cars. We just sat in the car for a few minutes, watched the guests, and studied the really strange property surrounding us.

We had drove for miles seeing nothing but a narrow country road, telephone poles, and the most beautiful sunset I had seen since Virgin Gorda. A few times, we were going to turn around because we couldn’t imagine anyone having a #party, much less, living out here in the nothing. I noticed there was no vegetation. It looked like freshly grated soil for as far as you could see with this HUGE, #salt block style home and a salt block style barn sitting in the middle of it.

It was all just rolling fields except the northern field. It had an unusual drop off of about 50 feet, with a straight top edge and an un-natural incline graded at a 45-degree angle. The absence of vegetation puzzled me. The home and barn were obviously very old and the wires and the telephone poles were equally as old? Yet, the ground appeared to have been graded with laser accuracy right to the pole?

“Hey! Are you guys going to sit in that car all evening or join the party”? Came a voice from the porch. It was a friend of Aryn’s that she knew from the office.
“That’s why we are here” Aryn jumped out of the car, threw a hand into the air, ran up the steps, and hugged her friend. I walked cautiously slower looking out at the fields as I walked.
Aryn introduced me and we went into the house where there were dozens of friendly, loud, people I didn’t know, talking and joking about things I didn’t know about. After being introduced as Aryn’s husband Alex, I was accepted into the group and directed to the kitchen where the food went the entire length of the west wall.

While waiting for the man in front of me to finish loading his paper plate, I was amazed at the old barn I could see out of the kitchen window. It must have been built at the same time as the house. They both were built on tall foundations of stone and concrete. The house had a stairway that went onto the front porch, and the #barn had a concrete ramp that went up to the large barn door. Both were constructed of a dark red/brown brick with contrasting chiseled white stone window sashes and headers.
Being a #builder myself, I noticed the obvious masonry skill that had been required on this property. Perfectly straight walls with no optical variation in the least.
“Just as perfect as the landscaping?”

“What ya say there Alex? I couldn’t hear ya with all that cackling in the front room!” “Ya get all them female type bookkeepers in the same room and we aint got a chance!” Said Bill loudly.
“Ohhhh… just admiring the sunset.” I said to avoid further conversation.
“Hey Albert…why don’t we take our food outside and get some quiet!”
“Good idea,” I said, “and it’s ALEX!”

We sat on the front steps as a cool breeze blew my napkin off my knee. I watched it move gracefully across the dirt and finally, far enough south that it disappeared over the ridge into the dark shadows of the, Bottom 40.
I took my empty plate into the kitchen. I peaked around the doorway of the dining room until Aryn spotted me and smiled as she looked away from a talking host. I gave her the OK gesture with a look of question. She gave me the zero elevation signal, from helping me shoot elevations, which meant she was fine. I refilled my #drink with mostly Captain and a little Coke, and slipped out the back door before Bill found me.

The sun had almost completely set, with lingering rays of gold and magenta on the horizon and cold clear blue still lighting up the upper #atmosphere. I walked to the left and back toward the road.
I leaned against the car for a few minutes and studied the incline. Another sip of Captain Morgan, and I walked toward the ridge. I stood staring, impressed at how the sunset made a shadow on the lower property. It seemed to have no bottom.

Voices broke my concentration as the party was breaking up and moving out onto the front porch.
I turned and looked toward the house, and my eyes were drawn to a reflection in the sky. I could see a commercial #airliner heading northwest. It was clear enough that I could even make out a logo on the tail that was mostly red. I saw another reflection, and further away flying northeast was another commercial airliner that appeared to have the same markings. It was further away so I can’t be sure, as I stood with my hands on my forehead?
“What you doing?” yelled Aryn.
“Come here, look at these planes!” I pointed to the north.

Suddenly the #planes both jumped as if #choreographed in exact unison. The left wing tip of both planes rose up to show both planes at a 45deg. angle.
I looked at Aryn. “LOOK!” as I continued to point.
When I looked back at the planes they were no longer at 45deg. Angles. They were flat again. NO! They are upside down. They are both upside down with the tail on the bottom!

“LOOK!” I yelled again. Most of the people didn’t know what I was talking about because standing on the south side of the house, the house, was blocking their view.
Aryn continued to walk toward me with a serious look on her face.
At that moment, the closest plane inverted 180 deg. to a level position, and pulled straight up, continuing to roll backward. I didn’t see the second plane but I assumed that it was doing the same. Then I saw a blinding brightness of the #landing lights on the plane.
“Oh shit!” I whispered.

I looked at the house and noticed that there were short shovels leaning against the porch.
“Aryn, get the shovels, HURRY!”
She knew that I was serious and ran to the porch, grabbed the three shovels and ran back to me. I was moving toward the incline. She dropped the shovels at the edge of the incline and I immediately grabbed one and threw it back to her.
“Come with me, NOW!”

We slid over the edge and got stopped about 15 feet down. She looked up and saw the plane and the landing lights headed straight for this area. There was no further communication necessary. She was digging as fast as me. If we could dig even the smallest hole back into the bank it might shield us from the #explosion. I heard another odd sound and paused for a second to look at the sky.
Wwwhhheeewww! Wwwwhhheeewww!
“#Meteor Shower, thousands!”

The plane got closer and closer. The ground was bright as day. The engines were #screaming like they were trying to stop in midair. The meteors streaked to the #Earth.
I woke up… and rolled over in the bed.

“Whoo!” I wiped the perspiration from my forehead.
“Aryn, wake up. I had another one.”
“We were driving down this #country road to a #party.”

I jumped out of the car and walked behind it smiling at the
guys in the next car as I shook my head. I spun Lisa around and
pushed her against the car. I put my face about 12" from hers.

“STOP! If you would just shut up and listen to me, you
would see that there is a bigger picture involved here! I have no
intention of leaving you here in Costa Rica. I want to help you
get your business started and then we can sail all over the world
getting new ideas for fashion as we go. You can email your designs
back to Costa Rica and we just keep on going. We can travel, I can
write my next book, and we can live happily ever after! GET IT?”

“Ever after?” as she calmed down.

STRESS REDUCTION and a better nights sleep! Read the new book... Amaretto with Coffee by A D Banyan

The day of the opening Lisa was a wreck.  She was nervous and often exploded in anger at me.  Loren would drag me from the room and explain that; “Lisa is always like this when she gets stressed.  She will be okay after a few sales.” She assured me.
We opened the doors at 8:00 and didn't have a single customer show up until 10:30.  I explained to her that people run a little different schedule in Florida and maybe we could adjust the hours once we see a pattern.
Lisa immediately became a gracious host and welcomed all of her new customers.  As they left with their purchases, I passed out discount coupons for their next visit, in an attempt to establish return customers.  Loren roamed the shop, assisted, and advised.  People had to only look at her appearance to know they could trust her opinion.  It seemed to be working and the money was coming in.
One thing I had not compensated for was three Costa Rican women in my little Florida house. I decided that while momma was here, Lisa and I would sleep on the boat.  The marina was only about ten minutes up the road, and the boat had two bathrooms, too.  With the tension that Lisa was bringing home every night, she needed mental, and physical, relief.  I made sure that her tension level remained under control.  If she was in melt down mode, we motored out into the Intracoastal Waterway and went south to one of the little sandbar islands.  We could play on the island and the beaches until she was exhausted, and then sleep in air-conditioned luxury in the Saborio.

She looked radiant as she walked down the aisle. They had
buried the evidence of Darius beneath several silk ribbons. She
looked absolutely beautiful with her long black hair falling across
her shoulders. I faced her from the platform, as our eye contact
never broke. I took her hand and she stood beside me.
The preacher read from the Bible and I thought about how
complete my life is now. As soon as we’re legal and recorded,
all of my past, present, and future, becomes one, and forgiven.
I looked past the Bible that the preacher was holding and stared
at Loren’s legs that showed between the split in the front
of her gown. I visualized her white thigh high nylons and that she
was probably not wearing panties.
“Daddy . . . DADDY!” David pushed her ring against my
forearm and snapped me back to reality.
“I DO!” I said, as Loren smiled, blushed, and shook her head
at me. She knew exactly what I was thinking!
“And Loren, do you take Jonah . . . death do you part?”
“She flashed me a sexy smile and looked me in the eyes . . .

Read this new book on your winter vacation! Amaretto with Coffee!

Amaretto19
Amaretto with Coffee,   by A. D. Banyan
Pg 54
“Let’s hear it! What’s your plan?” She ordered.
“If you started a shop in America . . . you could sell your
inventory for a lot more money. The exchange rate alone will
make a big difference in itself. Let him produce your own clothing
line, and you could even design it yourself.”
“Oh yeah, you got it all worked out . . . don’t you?” Her temper
was increasing. She opened the door and stepped out into the
stopped traffic. She put her hands on the roof and leaned over looking into the
car at me. Her hemline crept up as she bent over and the men in
the car behind us were not complaining.
“YOU! You think you can get Lisa all set up and self-supporting,
and then you don’t have to feel guilty as you blow her
off and run back to America!” Her anger was reaching its peak.
“LISA! It’s not like that!” I injected.
“Oh yeah! Send her home to take care of momma! Dump
her back in her own country and you’re done with her. You had a
few good months fucking the Costa Rican girl and got you a new
sailboat . . . Oh Yeah . . . time to move on now!”
Lisa had always felt . . . third world . . . . and I always had to
be careful about things I said. She felt that I talked to her in a
condescending manner when I was angry. She had no idea how
much I envied and respected her.
I jumped out of the car and walked behind it smiling at the
guys in the next car as I shook my head. I spun Lisa around and
pushed her against the car. I put my face about 12" from hers.
“STOP THIS! If you would just shut up and listen to me, you
would see that there is a bigger picture involved here! I have no
intention of leaving you here in Costa Rica. I want to help you
get your business started and then we can sail all over the world
getting new ideas for fashion as we go. You can email your designs

write my next book, and we can live happily ever after! GET IT?”
“Ever after?” as she calmed down. Her facial expressions changed
from anger to affection.
“If you’d just controlled your temper I would have told you all
of this!” I said.
“Ever after?” She repeated
HONK!!!!! HONK!!!!! HONK!!!!! HONK!!!!! Saved by the
horns!
She started laughing as she noticed that the traffic was
moving again. She kissed me very fast and jumped back into
the car. I ran around the back and the guys in the car behind us
clapped for me. I jumped into the car, as my door slammed and
the tires squealed.
Pg 110
The contractions were increasing before I got the paperwork
filled out, and they took me right to her and asked if I was the
coach. We had practiced that, so I said, “Yes!” and started doing my thing.
This was my first . . . delivery. I didn’t let it show . . . . but I
was nervous. I had several, three second, flashbacks of things that I
had told my friends over the years.
“Oh hell no! I don’t want kids. I love my life style”
“Married . . . . Oh hell no! Do you expect me to keep sleeping
with the SAME woman? I would go insane! Do I look like a
mini-van Daddy to you? Ha . . . Ha!”
“KIDS! Oh hell no! I’d have to sell my sailboat! You KNOW,
that’s not going to happen.”
An hour later  . . . or maybe three hours later . . . I was
introduced to;
Daniel Michael Bradford . . .The future heir to my throne!

 Pg 119
I reached into the bathtub water and raised her head. I drug
her wet body onto the ceramic tile floor as water ran out into the
bedroom. I tried CPR until I almost passed out.
“BREATHE DAM IT! BREATHE!”
I finally gave up and cried on her stomach. I stood and looked at her, as
she lie pale and wet in my favorite black nighty. She must have
been planning a big night for me before she flew back to Costa Rica.
“911 . . . What is your emergency?”
Pg 149
“I want another baby.” She said from nowhere.
I pulled out and rolled over onto my back as she put her head
on my shoulder.
“Aren't we getting a little ahead of things?” I said as my
erection deflated.
“Maybe . . . . but I do! Sooner or later you are going to figure
out that you have always loved me, and I have always loved you.
We have each taken the long way around getting here . . . but
here we are! We already have a son together, and I am perfectly
willing to raise Lisa’s son as my own. I think momma likes you
better than me now, so what is keeping us from making all of
this . . . real?” She asks with a serious look.
There was a long silence in the cabin as both of us faced each
other on our sides with our elbows in the mattress, and our heads
propped up on our hands. I stared into Loren’s big brown eyes for
a long time, as she did not even blink. I squinted my eyes at her and
slowly flashed her a full smile.
“I can’t think of a damn thing!”

Pg 155
“Monelle said he thought you might be interested in this one.”
as he laid the specs to the Celestial in front of us.
“Nice lines!” but the cabin layout isn’t going to get it!” I said.
“A few things have changed since I bought my last boat
from James! I have two small boys and a third one on the way.” I
smiled at Loren.
“Well Captain . . . congratulations . . . Are you working on
getting your own crew?” He chuckled.
“Actually my oldest one helped sail on the way up here. He’s
only six!” I caught myself bragging like the fathers I used to scoff at.
Pg 162
